Glossary of Terms

This is a Glossary of terms used by my family.  I will add new words as they come up.  Enjoy!

The Big Guy:  While we often refer to my father as big guy, The Big Guy, is also known as the Man Upstairs, or God.  They are both fathers and I love them both. Added 2/10/11

Boogerade Theory of Idiocy:  The theory of idiots who believe that they are anything but, and are determined to prove their non-idiocy through their moronic actions, which they believe are anything but idiotic.  We all know this person.  This term came about when my brother and I were sitting in a college level English class with a professor who was not that much older than we were.  We thought she was great, but she was telling us that she had seen everything in her 6 years of teaching.  My brother and I, from opposite corners of the room, both wondered how much our dad must have seen in his 36 years.  She went on to make other silly comments throughout the class period and at one point she said something that sounded like "Boogerade Theory of Idiocy."  I can't remember what it was that she really said, but my brother and I developed the "Theory" during smoke breaks and spewage sessions between classes.  I even wrote my paper at the end of the course on "the Theory."  I got a pretty good grade.  She was a really good sport. The Cosmic They/We: When someone says "they say..."  they are referring to the cosmic "they" (whether they know it or not).  "They" could be one misguided soul with a big mouth, or "they" could be the knowledgeable person in the world.  Be aware that what "they" say may be unfounded and possibly tragically wrong or the complete opposite of the truth.  The cosmic "we" is when "we are going to ....." or "we have decide to..." when only one person is speaking and no others have actually been consulted.  It may also refer to a colossal urinary issue, but I hope not.  Added 2/10/11

Dose/dosage:  I refer to some people as low dose or high dose people.  High dose people are those who I could spend the entire week with and still like them.  Medium dose people are those who, depending on the circumstance, a weekend is enough.  Low dose people are those who must be tolerated, an event or a day is plenty.  Most people are high dose people, and some days dosages can be adjusted.  Overdoses are possible and often painful. Added 1/27/11

Giggle Spasm:  This is the uncontrollable laughing that causes you to stop breathing momentarily.  It can sometimes impede your ability to stand, sit, or kneel.  You may be rendered completely useless for quite some time unless someone is looking to record a good laugh track.  It happens quite regularly at our house, especially to my eldest daughter.  Warning: Contagious Added 1/28/11

Hide and Age:  This is what happens to stories and poems after I write the rough and/or early drafts.  They hide in a notebook or saved on the computer until they have had time to age. I also refer to this as stewing.  Then I can go back with new eyes, later, to see what can be improved. It is much easier to catch mistakes with new eyes too.  It is almost like looking at someone else's work. I should probably add a find/seek clause to this one.  Chances are that I will "find" work that I have forgotten about or thought I lost.  Chances are also good that will have to play "seek" when I want to find were I hid some piece of work.  Added 2/1/11

Spewage:  This is part of my creative process. AKA 'brainstorming.' This usually happens when I get fired up about a topic, especially after a good meeting or seminar.  It is the act of writing or typing everything that may 'spew' out of my brain through my fingers.  I attribute the better episodes to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  Some spewage sessions, however,  are not so holy. Added 1/25/11

Sturggle:  This is what happens when I type the word 'struggle' too fast.  It made me laugh when I saw it so I thought I would share.  Added 2/1/11
